CLASSES or LECTURES: Available for guilds, quilt shops, or retreats. My home is in Laconia, NH.

Sew Many Threads: Lecture & Trunk Show. Learn about various kinds of thread, how to select the right thread for an application, and get some tips on eliminating frustration with those fussy decorative threads. My quilts highlight threads of all kinds from matte finish, to shiny, to sparkly.

Sew Many Threads: Candy Store. This introductory workshop is a combination of trunk show, discussion of threads from cotton, to polyester, to twist, to true metallic, and working hands-on to make a sampler of as many threads provided to them as time allows. Students learn about how to work with the “fussy” threads and receive individual help with their sewing machines. Diane brings her extensive thread collection so students can be like “a kid in a candy store!”

Branching Out This is my signature class. Students create a small landscape with tree/s or branches in the foreground. Techniques learned include curved piecing, couching, fusible appliqué, and (time permitting) thread art. This class can be done as a 5-6 hour class but is also well-suited for a 2 day class or retreat.

Creative Threads This class focuses on creating an artistic piece of thread art based on the book and teaching of Carol Ann Waugh in Stupendous Stitching. Various yarns, trims, or thick threads are couched on a piece of fabric. Decorative stitching with thread is added by machine and by hand. The fabric art can be used in making a pillow, bag, wall hanging, or other novelty.

Fun With Selvages Learn a technique for using selvages in a variety of fun projects from small gifts to more elaborate projects.

Keepsake Pillow or Crazy Quilt Table Runner. In these classes we use a Creative Grids template set to make a crazy quilt item and then we apply various trims and thread work to embellish it.

Other Classes:  Table Runner – Learn Bobbin Quilting and Couching with Razzle Dazzle thread and create a table runner. One version of this class is called “Follow that plaid” because it using a diagonal plaid as the backing and is then bobbin quilted following the lines of the plaid.
